Reliability, Performance, Responsiveness Update KB952709 for Windows Vista SP1.
Microsoft has released an Update for Windows Vista SP1. This update includes the following improvements on a Windows Vista SP1-based computer:
• This update improves the stability of Windows Vista SP1-based computers by addressing some crashes that may occur when you try to check e-mail by using a POP3 e-mail client such as Windows Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird. The crashes may occur on a Windows Vista SP1-based computer in the following scenario:
• Incoming POP3 and outgoing SMTP traffic monitoring is enabled.
• Both a third-party anti virus application and an anti spyware application are installed, such as the following applications:• ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.
• SpySweeper by Webroot Software, Inc.
• This update improves the reliability of Windows Vista SP1-based computers that experience issues in which large applications cannot run after the computer is turned on for extended periods of time. For example, when you try to start Excel 2007 after the computer is turned on for extended periods of time, a user may receive an error message that resembles the following: EXCEL.EXE is not a valid Win32 application
So if you are facing these and or some more issues specified in KB952709, do download and install this update.
Stop Error Message : "Stop 0x000000FE ( 00000008 , 00000006 , 00000001 , parameter4 )"
If you get Stop Error message when a Windows Vista-based computer that has a USB device attached resumes from standby or from hibernation: "Stop 0x000000FE ( 00000008 , 00000006 , 00000001 , parameter4 )", see KB949201.
Error message when you start IE7:You must be an administrator to open Internet Explorer on this desktop
If you get the error message when you try to start IE7 in Vista: "You must be an administrator to open Internet Explorer on this desktop" then install hotfixes mentioned at KB935855.
January 2008 Vista Hot Fixes to address specific issues.
This update improves performance, responsiveness, and reliability of Windows Vista in various scenarios. This update resolves the following issues on a Windows Vista-based computer:
• You receive a "Stop 0x000000A0" error when you try to switch the computer to the hibernate state.
• You receive a "Stop 0x0000009f" error when you switch/resume the computer to the hibernate state or to the standby state.

Fix for the 'wake from sleep' Error : STOP: 0x000000B8
If you get the error message when you wake Windows Vista from sleep that resembles the following:
STOP: 0x000000B8 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

New Reliability Update for Vista - KB943899.
Dec 12th, 2007. A new Performance and Reliability Update for Windows Vista has just been released. Details can be found at KB943899.

Unable to resume Vista from Hibernation / Sleep.
If your Windows Vista stops responding when you resume the computer from hibernation try the Hotfix from KB928135.
Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista.
Suvajit Pal, Microsoft MVP, has the following to add: Microsoft has released the October 2007 Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista. This update rollup is intended for computers that are running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate. Issues that are resolved by this update. In addition to the fixes that are contained in the updates that are listed in the "Hotfix replacement information" section, the October 2007 Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista resolves the following issues:
• Several issues that are related to the Media Center Extensibility Platform
• An issue that affects digital cable card components when you use Scientific Atlanta cable cards
• Interaction issues that occur between Media Center PC and Microsoft Xbox 360 when Xbox 360 is used as a Media Center Extender.
• Autolaunch issues that occur with video CD (VCD) media

Windows Vista Hotfixes for Geforce 6,7,8 Series cards
Microsoft® has made available the following Windows Vista® hotfixes. NVIDIA recommends that its customers always stay up to date with these latest hotfixes from Microsoft. The following hotfixes are recommended for GeForce 6, 7, and 8 series customers running 3D applications on Microsoft Windows Vista:
KB94105 Hotfix for GeForce customers running DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 applications.
This hotfix resolves abnormal application behavior such as crashes and extremely low frame rates when running some 3D applications at very high graphics settings. In order for this hotfix to be effective, GeForce customers must also update to the latest Release 163 or later Vista drivers from NVIDIA.
KB936710 Hotfix for SLI customers running DirectX 10 applications This hotfix resolves occurrences of low frame rates on some DirectX 10 applications when SLI is enabled. Performance improvements will vary depending on the application and the graphics driver version.
KB938194 Hotfix for GeForce customers. This hotfix improves the compatibility and reliability of Windows Vista. It can be downloaded from this link or from Windows Update.
KB938979 Hotfix for GeForce customers. This hotfix improves the performance and reliability of Windows Vista.
Reliability Update KB941600 To Fix Several Stop Errors.
If you wish to further improve the reliability of your Windows Vista, there is one cumulative update rollup for USB core components, which fixes the following issues, including SEVERAL Stop Errors or BSOD 's.. The computer takes a long time to resume from a suspend state or from a hibernation state when you use an Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) controller.

The computer stops responding when you remove a USB device. Additionally, you receive a "0xFE" Stop error on a blue screen.

When a computer resumes from a suspend state or from a hibernation state multiple times, you receive a "0xFE" Stop error on a blue screen.

Windows Vista Ultimate Language Packs Released.

Oct 24th, 2007. Microsoft has just released 19 Language Packs for Windows Vista Ultimate. I realized this, when my MicrosoftUpdates showed them as available updates! A search brought me to the WindowsUltimate Blog.
The languages added are: Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Thai, Turkish & Ukrainian.
In addition to the release of the remaining Language Packs, a component in the language pack installation process called lpksetup.exe has also been updated. This updated component addresses previous issues which some customers have experienced with language pack installations and so it is recommended that you download and install this component first. The updated lpksetup.exe can be found on KB942903.
Four Reliability & Compatibility Updates Released.
Oct 4th, 2007. Microsoft has released several updates to improve the reliability and compatibility of Windows Vista in certain scenarios. If your Copying in Vista takes a long time : A Fix !
If you find that when you try to Copy, your Vista takes ages; or if you have noticed a slow down or a non-response message when copying a file across the network; and if the copy process stops responding (or hangs), then this tips for you. Microsoft has come out with a Fix for that. Use it only IF you are facing this problem. In such case you usually see the following message, & you wait endlessly, twiddling your thumb !

Hotfix For Vista "Out of Memory" Error When Copying Files.
Oct 18th, 2007. IF you get an error message when you try to copy files, especially large numbers of files, from a Windows Vista-based computer to another computer by using Windows Explorer: "Out of memory There is not enough memory to complete this operation", then you can request or download a Hotfix for this from Microsoft. This problem usually occurs because of a memory leak in the Windows OLE component. This memory leak is triggered by the way that Windows Explorer deals with the extended attributes of the files.

Sept 04,2007. IF, after a Windows Vista-based computer has been running for an extended period of time, the desktop screen stops updating correctly, or if you may experience any of the following symptoms:
• Parts of the screen may go black.
• Parts of the screen may become transparent.
• The toolbar may disappear.
• The toolbar may appear at the top of the screen instead of at the bottom of the screen.
