| Impact of Installing the Windows Vista Performance & Reliability Packs. |
| |
Jon Bennett has raised a pertinent point. No one has thought of 'how' the 2 packages from Microsoft "The Performance and Reliability Updates" have actually impacted Vista ! Here are his submitted observations : |
| |
| "Since I installed the performance and reliability updates on August 10th, I did some experiments yesterday, to see if anything had changed; and have noticed the following: |
| |
1. The notebook now runs at 31% RAM at idle
2. Outlook 2007 is at 35% RAM with one window open
3. Word 2007 is at 36% RAM with one window open
4. Excel 2007 35% RAM with one window open
5. I.E.7 36% RAM with home page open |
|
| Collectively, with all the above applications open and with I.E.7 open with 5 tabs the RAM usage is 42% in total. All in all I think that this is quite acceptable considering the load along with the operating system which is Vista Home Premium with the AERO interface engaged. I think that once the computer settled down after the installation of the updates it has become more stable and a little faster. I didn’t mention before that I have two photo editors installed, Photoshop Elements 4 and Paint.NET, both which do not tax the system at all as I do not use them together. |
| |
I should mention what computer that I have:
1. HP Pavilion dv9340eu
2. Intel Core 2 Duo t5500
3. 2 GIG RAM
4. 160 GIG HDD
5. Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 |
|
| In conclusion, since the updates, the most significant difference that I have noticed, is system stability and to a lesser extent a small speed increase especially with photo editing software that I mentioned above. I did the experiments with Task Manager to get the most accurate readings for each application. I know that they are not scientific, but they were the best I could come up with at the time. I must add that I am not all that computer literate, but I used my experience as an Aircraft Maintenance Trouble Shooter and good old common sense to work out what was doing what. I hope this helps in some small way. J.B." |

| End-User Experiences matter the most, JB ! Most Vista users have had positive experiences after installing the 2 packages, like you, but none have thought of quantifying them. Thank You for your submission. |
