The Nokia Text Messenger is a Sidebar gadget that allows you to receive texts and read them on your PC’s screen. You can also compose messages from your PC and send them; choosing your contact by clicking the drop-down to button. The advantage of this is that you can write a proper message quickly without the text speak associated with normal text messages.

View Visited Web Sites of Internet Explorer.

Each time that you type a URL in the address bar or click on a link in IE, the URL address is automatically added to the history index file. When you type a sequence of characters in the address bar, IE automatically suggests you all URLs that begins with characters sequence that you typed. However, it doesn't allow you to view and edit the entire URL list that it stores inside the history file.

IEHistoryView reads all information from the history file on your computer, and displays the list of all URLs that you have visited in the last few days. It also allows you to select one or more URL addresses, and then remove, save and do more ! Download.

How to get "Previous Versions" even in Vista Home Editions !

"From time to time, Windows® Vista creates point-in-time copies of your files. This allows you to retrieve older versions from files you accidentally deleted or altered. This service is turned on by default on all versions of Windows® Vista, but Microsoft grants access to these copies only in Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise editions, but not on Home Editions."

To get the previous versions of any file on Vista, one right clicks the file and selects Restore Previous Versions. Alternatively one can also select Properties instead and then click on the Previous Versions box, to see the available versions.

ShadowExplorer allows you to browse the Shadow Copies created by the Windows® Vista Volume Shadow Copy Service. It's especially useful for users of the Home editions, who don't have access to the shadow copies by default.

If you need to syncronise to something that's not supported, eg a digital camera, across folders, or even between different computers, then SyncToy 1.4, a PowerToy from Microsoft, which is Vista compatible, and will let you sync a folder to a removable hard drive, a network share, and so on. AutoRuns Utility for Windows Vista

Autoruns is a startup cleaner utility that is similar to the MSCONFIG utility. MSCONFIG only shows you startup and services and it doesn’t check digital signatures which means anything can hide from it. With Autoruns, nothing can hide and there’s no need to use MSCONFIG at all. You can download it from Technet . Open this utility by clicking on clicking on Autoruns.exe. will open this utility. Before you begin, enable “Verify Code Signatures” and “Hide Signed Microsoft Entries”. Check these two and hit F5 to refresh the scan. Not only does Autoruns verify the authenticity of everything being loaded in to Windows through cryptographic signatures, it also recognizes files that have been tampered with. Hide all the Microsoft entries, and you can also spot potentially unwanted or dangerous entries or Crapware and easily disable it with this wonderful tool.

Process Tamer : Stop Programs From Hogging Your PC

If your system sporadically runs at 100% CPU utilization and locks up, you can try the freeware utility Process Tamer. This utility watches the CPU utilization of all running processes. Once the usage of a single process gets above a certain level (by default 70%) Process Tamer reduces the usage by lowering the process priority.

It's a simple idea and Process Tamer implements it immaculately. With Process Tamer installed, the next time the problem occurs it doesn't totally lock up but rather just runs very slowly.

Why do we get craplets on our machines? The answer, as you probably could already guess, is that OEMs make money from crapware (a collective term for all craplets). Companies actually pay to have their applications pre-installed on a PC. And what are these craplets? How To Cycle Vista's Aero Glass Color Automatically.

You can make it so that the colors of your Vista's window change from say red to pink to blue and so on over a period of time. You can even set it so, in a laptop, to warn you about the state of your battery life. For instance when available battery is 90%+ pick Green, when less than 10%, red, and so on. The change in color will occur automatically.

To do so, download and run this nifty application called Vista Color Transform and run it. I have tried it and it runs nicely. Doesn't require an install.

Snarl ! ! !

Snarl is a notification system that lets applications display nice alpha-blended messages on the screen. Unlike other forms of notification, Snarl does not hijack the current focused window, nor does it force the taskbar to be visible. Notifications can either be cancelled by clicking on them, or left to disappear automatically if ignored for a period of time.

How to Use ANY Gadget on Vista's SideBar.

Here is a way to convert Google or any Gadget and use it on your Vista's SideBar. I have tried it successfully with Widgets from widgetbox too. You can transform almost any gadget into one that can live on the Windows Vista sidebar or your Desktop.

Download & Install Amnesty Generator. Then, choose a Web gadget you'd like to turn into a Vista gadget, click a few buttons to display the gadget's underlying HTML code. Copy and paste that code into Amnesty Generator, change a few settings, such as the gadget's name or size, if you wish, and tell Amnesty Generator to turn it into a Windows Vista gadget. The gadget will appear in the Windows Vista Gadget Gallery. Ffrom there you can move it to the Sidebar or even your Desktop.

The Start++ Utility

Users of WDS on XP may recall the “Deskbar Shortcuts” functionality that allows you to create little aliases between words or characters with commands and searches. For example, you could set up the Deskbar so that you could type “g Stuff” to search for the work “Stuff” on Google. You could also launch programs, run scripts with parameters, and more.

Windows Vista replaced the Deskbar with Instant Search built-in to the Start menu, which is totally awesome. Unfortunately, it lacks all of that fun shortcut functionality that the Deskbar had. Unless you have this cool tool, which is called Start++ .
